ALBANY - James J. Eberlein, 89, died July 2, 2015 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center after a long illness.

Born on January 15, 1926 to Hilda and John Eberlein, Jim grew up in Hudson and Albany, and graduated from Albany High School before joining the US Navy in 1944. After being honorably discharged he attended Siena College, under the GI Bill, and graduated in June 1950. Three days later he married Rosemary Connell at St. Brigid’s Church in Watervliet.

Jim had a successful career of 35 years at Pfizer Inc. where he retired as Director of Medical Communications. While at Pfizer, Jim was presented the Outstanding Service Award by the American Academy of Family Physicians. He was the only non-physician to receive this honor.

He enjoyed traveling having seen all fifty States, and visited many parts of the world including Europe, Asia, Australia and Central America, with his wife Rosemary.

Jim is pre-deceased by his son John who died in 1970. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Rosemary, three sons, Fred and his wife Erika, Bob and his wife Barbara, Tom and his wife Swasi, and one daughter, Mary C. Mikel and her husband Dan.

Jim was a beloved “Poppy” to 8 grandchildren: Diana Eberlein, Michael Chopp, James Mikel, Joseph Eberlein, Caitlin Mikel, John Mikel, Balazs Eberlein and Barnabas Eberlein. Poppy was delighted to welcome his first great grandchild, McKenna Rose Mikel, born March 27.

The funeral will be Wednesday, July 8 at 9:00 AM in the Church of St Joan of Arc, Menands. At Jim’s request there will be no calling hours. The family will greet mourners and friends after the Mass.
