Obituary for Eugenia Zaharchuk (Belokopitsky)

MAPLEWOOD – Eugenia Belokopitsky Zaharchuk, age 101, passed away Saturday morning, May 7, 2016 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in Maplewood on July 10, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Sophie Shatevich Belokopitsky.
She was a resident of North Greenbush for 57 years, then a resident of Maplewood for the past 15 years. She attended Maplewood School and was a member of the first graduating class from the school.
She was employed by Montgomery Ward & Co. and the New York State Dept. of Labor. She was a member of St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church in Maplewood. Eugenia enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, baking, gardening and shoveling. She raked and shoveled until she was 100 years old. She also enjoyed all her church activities, making pierogis with her fellow church mates and friends. Most of all she enjoyed her church, religion and family.
Eugenia was the wife of the late Michael Zaharchuk who passed in 1998. She is survived by her sister-in-laws, Lidia Belokopitsky of Watervliet and Betty Belokopitsky of Maplewood. She was predeceased by her siblings, Olga Washinko, Anna Pawelczek, Alexis, Michael, George, Joseph, Andrew and Alexander Belokopitsky. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Her niece, Sophie Belokopitsky and Michael Capitula were her caregivers and were with her until her time of death. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at10:00 am at St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church, Maplewood. Interment at St. Basil’s Cemetery, Maplewood. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 pm with a Panikhida service at 5pm.
Contributions may be made to St. Basil’s Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home.
