ALBANY – Jeffery Fay, 62, died Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at his home. Born in Troy on January 19, 1954, he was the son of the late Virginia Bayer Dunn and stepson of the late Abraham (Shaker) Dunn. Jeff was raised in Latham and was a 1972 graduate of Shaker High School where he played varsity football and track. He continued his education at St. Lawrence University where he received a BS in Physical Education and played two years of collegiate football.
In 1979, Jeff attended Officer Training School in New London, CT and served as an officer in the United States Coast Guard for 20 years before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1999. Among his multiple assignments, Jeff worked as an Operations Center Controller, served in the Persian Gulf during the build-up to Operation Desert Shield, and served as the Coast Guard Liaison Officer to the United Stated Navy while he was stationed in Coronado, CA. He later was employed for 12 years by the NYS Legislative Bill Drafting Commission in Albany, retiring in 2013.
Jeff was a huge NY Yankees, NY Giants and Boston Celtics fan. He played rugby for Albany Law School and was a voracious history buff who loved to read.
He is the loving father of Davis C. Fay of Minneapolis, MN and Amanda B. Fay of Westminster, CO; former husband of Linda Fay Hanlon of Jackson, WY; dear brother of Davis J. Fay and wife Laurie of Menands and the late Tracey Fay; adored uncle of Jimmy, Jeffrey, Maddie and Abby Fay; nephew of Teddy Bayer. Jeff is also survived by many dear cousins and Beta brothers from his college fraternity.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:30 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, NY. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday from 9:30 am-11:30 am.
