Charles J. ""Gary"" Krikorian
WATERVLIET – Charles J. “Gary” Krikorian (The Krik), 71, passed away peacefully Christmas Day, December 25, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Worcester, MA on October 4, 1945, he is the beloved son of Lucy Nazarian Krikorian of Watervliet and the late Krikor “George” Krikorian.
At the age of 4 Gary moved to Watervliet and attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School and Watervliet High School, class of 1963 where he played football and soccer. On his 17th birthday, he enlisted in the US Naval Reserve and later joined the US Air Force. He was a jet aircraft mechanic and flew 82 refueling combat missions in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.
On June 1, 1971, he was sworn into the Albany Police Department as part of the “Magnificent Seven”. He was promoted to Detective in 1980 and partnered with Det. Mike Sbuttoni, Sr. and worked under Lt. Ted Flint. Gary spent his whole career in Division Two in the South End before retiring July 30, 2004.
Gary loved golf and had three hole-in-ones and was a member at the Sycamore Golf Course in Ravena. He was a past commander of the Simonian-Avakian Veterans Post in Watervliet and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
Gary enjoyed family vacations at York Beach, ME and loved being outdoors in his yard around the pool with his family. He trained horses with his uncle at the Saratoga Harness Track. Gary loved to shop and was a sharp dresser, and “always knew a guy”.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia K. Fogarty Krikorian on May 11, 1969 and together they raised four beautiful children, Scott M. Krikorian of Watervliet, Tara (Geoffrey) Frazier and Kristin (Travis) Winglosky both of Colonie and Gregory (Tammie) Krikorian of Wynantskill. He is the proud grandfather of Jalena, Cameron, Alec, Briella and Kali; dear brother of Linda (Skip) Gross of Green Island. Also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and his cherished german shepherd, Fenway Frank.
The family would like to thank the staff at Albany Medical Center, D4 East and the transplant team at Dana-Farber for the love and excellent care given to Gary.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at St. Peter Armenian Church, 100 Troy-Schenectady Road (Rt. 2), Watervliet on Friday from 4-7 pm followed by the funeral service at 7 pm.
