Obituary for George E. Woodin Jr.

George E.  Woodin Jr.
POESTENKILL – George E. Woodin, Jr., 84, died peacefully Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Born in Troy on June 12, 1932, he was the son of the late George E. and Mildred M. Moore Woodin, Sr. George was raised in Watervliet and graduated from Watervliet High School in 1949.
After high school, he was employed by Conklin Photography Studio in Troy and General Electric in Schenectady. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War serving aboard the U.S.S. Olmsted. After his honorable discharge, he entered the family business, George’s Motor Freight in Watervliet which later became George Terminal Warehouse based in Albany and Colonie before retiring in 1995.
George also ran a greenhouse business in Wynantskill where he raised flowers and vegetables. He was a former member of the Troy Elks, enjoyed hunting in his younger years, was a member of the South Troy Community Center Senior Bocci League and helped plan his 48 and 50 year Watervliet High School class reunions. He has resided in the house that he designed and built in Poestenkill since 1987.
He was the beloved husband of 64 years of Marilyn J. Rettie Woodin; devoted father of Robert (Leslie) Woodin of Sunset Beach, NC, Jeffrey D. (Jackie) Woodin of Wynantskill and Jennifer L. Woodin of Poestenkill; proud grandfather of Diane (Eric) Welborn, Steven (Aimee) Woodin, James (Jenevieve) Woodin and Alexander and Nathaniel White.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 9 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with Rev. Robert Peters officiating. Interment will follow in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
