Obituary for Elizabeth "Oma" Kurjatnik (Heck)

Watervliet - Elizabeth (Oma) Kurjatnik, 98, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her daughter’s home on January 6, 2017. Born in Weikersheim, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Elizabeth Heck.

Elizabeth was the wife of the late Fedor Kurjatnik and loving mother of the late Gisela (Edmund) Schlederer. She is survived by her daughters; Helen (Ron) Wilkinson, and Mariane (Greg) Leinweber, her grandchildren; Monika Wiwczar, John Schlederer, Edmund Schlederer, RJ Wilkinson, Brittany Wilkinson and Benjamin Leinweber, and her great-grandchildren, Peter Wiwczar, Camden Schlederer and Somara Wilkinson.

Elizabeth came to the United States in 1951 and became a resident of Watervliet. She was a talented tailor who retired from Wells and Coverly Clothiers in Troy. She will forever be remembered as a woman whose energy and work ethic inspired her family to always strive to improve. The core of her life was her family. She was happiest helping her family solve the problems life presented. She spent her retirement years watching her grandchildren and sewing for her family and friends. Special thanks to all who gave their time this past year so Oma could remain at home with family.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at 12 noon at Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with Elizabeth’s family for an hour before the service, from 11 A.M until noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to the Community Hospice Foundation, 310 South Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208. Condolence book at parkerbrosmemorial.com.
