Obituary for John F. "Jack" Shellard

John F. "Jack"  Shellard
LATHAM – John “Jack” F. Shellard, 67, passed peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at the home he built surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.
Born in Troy on June 13, 1949, he was the son of the late John F. and Helen Mackey Shellard. Jack was a graduate of St. Brigid’s School and Watervliet High School, class of 1968 where he excelled at football, basketball and baseball. He later played semi-pro football for the Troy Titans and was a veteran of the US Army National Guard.
Jack was employed by Niagara Mohawk then National Grid based in Albany for over 35 years as a chief foreman hot stick line mechanic before retiring in 2005.
Jack was larger than life and always the life of the party. To know him was to love him. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed traveling to Foxboro to watch the New England Patriots and to the Bronx to watch the New York Yankees. He spent much of his retirement working outdoors in his yard as well as spending time with his family at the home he built with his wife and best friend Marianne.
John was the loving husband of the late Marianne Flavin Shellard who died August 20, 2016; loving father to John J. (Kelly) Shellard of Saratoga Springs, Jason M. (Kerri) Shellard of Granville, Tara C. (Jared) Halliday and Drew W. (Kate) Shellard of Latham and Matthew J. Shellard of Boston, MA; adored grandfather of Johnny B. Shellard, Silver S. Shellard, Declan T. Halliday, Avary H. Halliday and Mya G. Halliday; dear brother of Frederick (Mary) Shellard of Lake George and Florida and Gerald T. (Susan) Shellard of Clifton Park. Jack is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 10 am at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham, followed by the interment of Jack’s ashes at Memory’s Garden in Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 pm.
