Obituary for Basil Wasilenko

WATERVLIET – Basil Wasilenko, 87, died Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany. Born in Maplewood on January 12, 1930, he was the son of the late Polikarp and Antonia Rentz Wasilenko. He attended Maplewood Elementary School and Watervliet High School. He served active duty in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Silver Star.
He was an auto mechanic and worked with his brother Arch at Jupin’s Service Station in Maplewood for over 30 years. He was a 60 year member of the Maplewood American Legion Post #1615 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Buck’s family would like to thank all his friends at the Purple Pub, Circle Diner and at the Hanratta Apartments for their companionship and caring over the years.
He was predeceased by his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Marilyn Doust Wasilenko. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Walter Wasilenko, Arthur, Alan, Elizabeth and Pauline Jupin and Vera Viola Mokay.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Troiano (Domenick) of Clifton Park, NY and his son, David Wasilenko (Deirdre) of Washington Township, NJ; granddaughters, Nina Abrams (Michael) and Stephanie Combs (James); grandsons, Brian Wasilenko (Ashley) and Michael Wasilenko (Holly); great grandson, Leo Wasilenko; his sister, Dorothy Shewczyk, beloved nieces and nephews, and too many friends to count.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
