Marcia L. Cummings (Leake)
GLENMONT - Mary Marcia Leake Cummings, 90, with her family by her side, entered into eternal life on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s in Albany.

Born in Albany on March 9, 1927, Marcia was the dear daughter and only child of the late Henry and Marion Culliton Leake. She was raised in Albany and was a 1945 graduate of the Milne School. Following high school, Marcia dedicated herself to the care of her grandmother until her passing and then worked for several years as a stenographer with Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Albany. She was married to Edward L. Cummings in The Grotto at St. Vincent DePaul Church in Albany on September 27, 1952 and together they enjoyed 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2002 at the age of 77. For Marcia, life was always first and foremost about her family and friends, she cared deeply about people. She enjoyed being involved with her children’s activities in their growing up years and in more recent years received that same enjoyment from her grandchildren, each of whom filled her with much pride. She was a steady presence and enthusiastic fan at their big games, major performances and graduations. Most recently she was blessed with her first great-grandchild.

Marcia was a dedicated volunteer who gave generously of her time to the Mercy Me Gift Shop at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany for many years. She also served, for many holiday seasons, as a volunteer with the Festival of Trees at the Albany Institute of History & Art. Marcia enjoyed an active social life through which she met and made many friends. Marcia wintered in Naples, Florida for twenty years, where she enjoyed a wide range of activities and extended her network of close friends. She and her family spent numerous summers on Cape Cod in West Dennis, Massachusetts, where she was always happily at the center of the action with her family and friends. She was a parishioner of the former Holy Cross Church in Albany and more recently affiliated with St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar.

Marcia was the loving mother of Patricia C. Rossman (Glenn) of Chappaqua, NY, Edward L. Cummings, Jr. (Gina) of Glenmont, NY and Carol C. Quinn (Kevin) of Delmar, NY; cherished grandmother of Edward “Ted” Rossman (Chelsea), John Patrick “Jack” Rossman (Lindsey), Mark Rossman, Campbell Elizabeth Cummings, Abigail Quinn, Annie Quinn and Lauren Quinn; adoring great-grandmother of Ashleigh Rossman; and dear sister-in-law of Mary Elizabeth “Mitzi” Cummings of Lewiston, NY. Marcia was also devoted to her many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 9:30AM in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar. The Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet.
