Obituary for Michael John Pontore

WATERVLIET – Michael John Pontore, 78, died Friday, March 10, 2017 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in Watervliet on October 9, 1938, he was the son of the late Natale and Antoinette Toscano Pontore. A lifelong resident of Watervliet, Michael was a 1956 graduate of Watervliet High School. He served in the US Army from 1961-63.
He was employed by the Bendix Corporation and Allied Signal in Green Island for over 37 years in the accounts receivable department before retiring 20 years ago. He was a member of the CRS Italian-American Post and was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church both in Watervliet.
Mike enjoyed trips to the Saratoga Race Course, fishing, darts, bowling, playing cards, family vacations in Wildwood, NJ and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and attending their school and sporting events.
The family would like to thank the nurses on the 4th floor and in the emergency room at Samaritan Hospital for the wonderful care given to Michael.
He was the beloved husband of 54 years of Caroline “Karen” E. Budka Pontore; devoted father of Natali Michael (Jane) Pontore of Erie, PA, Joseph T. (Lisa) Pontore of Watervliet, Richard T. (Lynn) Pontore of Waterford and Gary F. (Tricia) Pontore of Newtown, CT; proud grandfather of Dr. Katelyn (Nathan) Hipwell, Joseph, Jessica (Ben), Josephina, Michael, Gabriel, Dominick, Ericka, Derrick and Matthew Pontore; brother of Antoinette Reisner, Anna (Tony) Gicobbi and the late Leo, Margaret and Anthony (Janet) Pontore, Theresa Giaquinto, Carmela Kulka and Mary Wright. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 10 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with Deacon Alfred R. Manzella officiating. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 pm.
