Obituary for Paul P. Harko

COLONIE – Paul P. Harko, 86, formerly of Watervliet, died peacefully Monday, March 20, 2017 at his home. Born in Voorheesville on October 5, 1930, he was the son of the late Peter and Katherine Filipezuk Harko. A graduate of Voorheesville High School, Paul was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.
Paul was employed by the Ford Motor Co. in Green Island for 34 years as a Quality Control Inspector before retiring in 1989. In his retirement, he worked at DeLollo’s Hardware in Watervliet in customer service.
He was a 47 year member of the former Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet where he was an usher and a trustee. After moving to Colonie in 2001, he was currently a communicant of Christ Our Light Church.
He was a member of the Watervliet Lodge of Elks #1500 and was in charge of Bingo for 26 years. He was also a member of the Ukrainian Club in Watervliet and the Zaloga American Legion Post. He loved his family and grandchildren, enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, darts and was an avid New York Mets fan.
He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley A. Danish Harko who died in 2000; devoted father of Michael P. Harko (James Suschinski) of Colonie, Peter P. Harko of Cambridge and Andrea M. (Michael) Famiano of Saratoga Springs; father in law of Ok Yung Ahn; proud grandfather of Melissa Harko (Ken Schultz), Matthew Harko, Patrick, Timothy and Robert Harko, Jessica and Anthony (Mariah) Famiano; great grandfather of Aiden Harko; brother of Mary Agnes (J.V.) Albert of Port St. Lucie, FL and Joan Parker of Clearlake, CA. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 9 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10 am at Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 pm.
