Obituary for Dolores F. Thanopoulos (Gaunay)
Albany – Dolores F. Thanopoulos, 83, beloved wife of Nicholas P. Thanopoulos and loving mother of Anthony N. Thanopoulos and the late Angelo N. Thanopoulos, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 9, 2017.
Born in Troy, NY, Dolores was the daughter of the late Joseph and Annella (Lucasky) Gaunay. She was raised in Troy and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School. She furthered her education and obtained her NYS Teaching Assistant Certificate. Dolores was employed by the Watervliet City School District for 28 years and retired in 2005 following a career in which she dedicated herself to proudly educating and serving the children of Watervliet.
She was a 15 year member of the Watervliet Lodge of Elks and was also a long-time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lodge. Dolores was a member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Albany and was a member and past officer of the St. Barbara Chapter of the Philoptochos Society.
A dedicated and loving wife and mother, Dolores enjoyed gardening, reading mystery novels, shopping and traveling.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 9AM in the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet where the Reverend Patric Legato will officiate. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Albany. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 until 7 PM.
The members of the Watervliet Lodge of Elks are respectfully invited to gather at the funeral home on Tuesday to perform the Elks Memorial Service at 6:30PM.
