Obituary for Elizabeth R. "Beth" Mooney (Hickey)

TROY – Elizabeth “Beth” Rose (Hickey) Mooney, 47, died peacefully Monday, April 17, 2017 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with her family at her side. Born in Troy on January 13, 1970, she is the loving daughter of Mary A. (Hayes) Hickey of Troy and the late Peter Carey Hickey, Sr.
Beth was a 1984 graduate of Our Lady of Victory School and a 1988 graduate of Catholic Central High School. She later graduated in 1993 from Siena College with an English Degree. In 2016, she was proudly inducted into the CCHS Hall of Fame as a basketball player.
She was employed for 10 years by the Troy Housing Authority as a Tenant Relations Specialist. For the past 12 years, she has worked for the NYS Office of Temporary Disability Assistance (OTDA) in Albany until her recent illness.
Beth was very involved with her children’s schools, serving on the Our Lady of Victory School Parish Council, St. Jude’s School in Wynantskill PSA and as the treasurer of the Parent’s Club at LaSalle Institute in Troy.
Her greatest joys in life was being a wife and mom to her two children and attending their school and sporting events. She also enjoyed cooking, knitting, reading and attending her family gatherings.
Beth had a special quick wit about her. She was able to make people laugh, including herself, in even the most trying times.
She is the beloved wife of Kevin M. Mooney whom she married on September 30, 1995; the best mom of Liam Patrick Mooney and Molly Grace Mooney; dear sister of Mary (Rick) Hoffmeister, Kate (Mike) Morrow, Theresa Hickey, Meg (Dan) Honsinger, Patsy (Kevin) Collins and Peter C. (Laura) Hickey, Jr. Beth is also survived by 16 beloved nieces and nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins and her treasured friends, Michele (John) Guzek and Kathy (John) O’Bryan.
Relatives and friends may call at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy on Thursday from 4-8 pm. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Victory Church. Her ashes will be interred with her dad following the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy.
