Obituary for Gloria Jean "Cookie" Voland (Chiplock)

COHOES – Gloria Jean Chiplock Voland, “Cookie”, 73, died peacefully Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at her son Nick’s home in Mechanicville. Born in Troy on February 14, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Eva Tezbir Chiplock, Sr. She was a graduate of Maplewood School and Watervliet High School.
Gloria graduated from nursing school and received her LPN and worked at Leonard Hospital in Troy. She also worked at Ford Motor Co. in Green Island. She later attended Cornell University and took courses in the School of Labor Relations. She was active in the union movement and received a letter from Lech Walesa of Poland acknowledging her involvement.
She was a Minnesota Vikings and Boston Celtics fan. She devoted her life to raising her three sons and had a special relationship with her granddaughter Alexa.
She is the devoted mother of Scott Voland (Michele) of Watervliet, Shawn and Heidi Voland of Cohoes and Nicholas Voland of Mechanicville; adored grandmother of Alexa and Tenley Voland; sister of Robert (Patricia) Chiplock of Ivey, GA, Thomas (Barbara) Chiplock of Waterford, Joeph (Nancy) Alfieri of Albuquerque, NM and the late Stephen Chiplock, Jr. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday at 11:30 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Interment Memory Gardens, Colonie. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday prior to the service from 10-11:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, NY 12189 to assist the family.
