Obituary for Stephen T. Sibinich

Fort Myers, Florida – Stephen T. Sibinich, 77, former resident of Troy, NY and Chatham, MA, passed away peacefully, at the home of his daughter, in Fort Myers, Florida on Thursday, April 27, 2017.

Born in Troy, NY on July 28, 1939 he was the son of the late Eli and Caroline (Kowalchyk) Sibincich. Stephen was educated in Troy public schools and was honorably discharged from the U.S Coast Guard in 1960. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local 83 in Albany and was employed as a sheet metal worker and contractor for over 30 years before his retirement.

An avid outdoorsman, Stephen loved fishing and hunting and had lifetime affection for Beagles. He enjoyed camping, downhill skiing, boating and traveling around the country in his motor home. He was a life-long fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox and was a former member of the Troy Lodge of Elks.

Stephen was the much loved husband, for 50 years, of the late Shirley (Speight) Sibinich who died on January 20, 2008. He is survived by his loving son and daughter, Stephen T. Sibinich, Jr. and his wife Erin of Uxbridge, MA and Sharon A. Sibinich of Fort Myers, FL; his cherished grandchildren, Courtney Sibinich, Chelsey Rivett and her husband Brandon and Stephen T. Sibinich, III; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Michael Sibinich, Mary Gervais, Andy Sibinich, George Sibinich and Sophie Grogan.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 8:45 AM from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, NY with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 AM in St. Joseph’s Church in South Troy. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends are invited and may also visit with Stephen’s family on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, from 4 until 7 PM at the funeral home.

In remembrance of his wife Shirley, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 33 Elk Street, Albany, NY 12207 in memory of Stephen T. Sibinich.
