Born in Schenectady on May 17, 1944, George was the son of the late Harold W. and Gertrude (Mussig) Maille. He was raised in Schenectady and was a 1962 graduate of Nott Terrace High School. George served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He held various jobs before he found his calling as a counselor, first working on an Inpatient Chemical Dependency Unit at the Stratton VA Medical Center and then as an Employee Assistance Counselor at Value Options in the Hedley Building in Troy. He later was employed as the Manager of the Employee Assistance Program at the Watervliet Arsenal from where he retired. In retirement, George was employed as an attendant in the Pearl Street Parking Garage in downtown Albany where he made many friends because of his warm and happy ways and kind smile with which he greeted customers each day.

George was known for his quick wit, warm smile and his sense of humor. He was well read, enjoyed classic movies and the History Channel, fishing, travelling and dining out. He enjoyed visiting his daughter and her family and being the target of his son in law Frank’s jokes. He enjoyed sports through his son Sean’s participation in basketball and football. He was most proud of his son’s accomplishment as a member of the 2016 National Championship Troy Fighting Irish Adult Amateur Football Team.

He was a communicant of the Parish of Mater Christi in Albany.

George was the loving husband of Susan (Cahill) Maille; father of Stacie (Frank) Coons of Amsterdam and Sean J. Maille of Albany; grandfather of Samantha, Christina, Jessie and Caitlin; brother of Harold Maille of Boise, ID, Judith (Raymond) Filutowski of Schenectady, Deborah Maille of Clifton Park and the late Dennis Maille; best friend of Herb Crossman and Jack Alvis; he is also survived by eight great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and the members of the Cahill family.
