Obituary for Rajinder K. Jain MD

Rajinder K. Jain MD
LATHAM - Rajinder K. Jain MD FACP, 67, passed away peacefully at home in Latham, NY on the evening of June 4, 2017 with his family by his side. Sadly, he was diagnosed with a very late stage and aggressive form of cancer only two months prior.
Rajinder, fondly known as Raj, was the first son and eldest child of Brij Nath Jain and Chandresh Lata and was born on December 19, 1949 in Kaithal, Haryana, India. He was raised in the state of Punjab and moved to New Delhi in 1967 to attend the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences. It was there he met his wife of 44 years, Suman Lata. They were married shortly after he graduated at the top of his class and immigrated to the United States in 1973. After completing an internal medicine residency at Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine and a fellowship in endocrinology at Albany Medical College, Raj began his private practice in endocrinology in 1979 in Troy, NY. He saw patients and served his local community for 38 years, specializing in the treatment of diabetes. Raj was a beloved and innovative physician, starting the first specialized center in the area for diabetes, focusing on education. He also began the first wound care center in the Capital District. He was always ahead of his time in utilizing technology in medicine via adopting and developing novel software, diagnostic tools, and record keeping in diabetes management. He was also a leader in the medical community, where he served as director and chairperson for numerous health organizations including serving on the board of MVP Healthcare.
Raj was an avid tennis player and aficionado. He also had a great passion for music, photography, adventure travel, cycling and hiking, where he climbed some of the highest peaks in the world, including Everest and summiting Kilimanjaro, alongside his dear friends. He and Suman also traveled to the farthest corners to spend precious time with family and friends abroad and completed many a religious pilgrimage. Raj was a leader in his family, community and chosen medical field. He stood as an example of excellence, hard work and dependability for all those whose lives he touched. He loved life and lived it to the fullest in the time he shared with us, always reaching for the stars while demanding and giving no less than the very best.
Dr. Jain is immediately survived by his wife, Suman Jain, and his three adult children, Dr. Shalini Jain, Simi Jain and Rahul Jain. He is also survived by his father, Brij Nath Jain and his siblings, Shashi Bala Garg, Anita Gupta, Praveen Jain, Dr. Anjali Goel, Dr. Sandeep Jain and Ashu Gupta. He was predeceased by his mother, Chandresh Lata and his brother, Dr. Dhiraj Jain.
As per his wishes, a religious funereal ceremony was performed in the presence of immediate family and closest friends on June 5. The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Cultural Center of the Albany Hindu Temple where he was a patron member, 450 Albany Shaker Road, Loudonville, NY from 10AM-1PM. All are welcome to attend. Dr. Rajinder Jain will always be missed but forever held in our hearts.
