Obituary for Flavia Sposito (D'Amico)

LATHAM – Flavia D’Amico Sposito, 89, formerly of Watervliet, died peacefully Thursday, June 15, 2017 at her home in Latham. Born in Valle Di Maddaloni, Caserta, Italy on February 23, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Michele and Gelsomina Posillipo D’Amico.
Flavia worked in a mine and on a farm while in Italy, while also doing fringe work from home. In 1971, Flavia, her husband Vincenzo, and three children moved to the USA and settled in Watervliet where she lived on 7th Avenue for over 40 years.
She was employed as a seamstress at O’Brien Dress Co. in Watervliet, Ursula of Switzerland in Waterford and Marvin Neitzel in Troy.
She was a member of the Italian Community Center in Troy and was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet, Our Lady of the Assumption Church and St. Ambrose Church both in Latham.
Flavia enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing bocci, cooking her homemade pasta and sauce, and trips to the casino. She loved being with her family and was always on the go.
She was the beloved wife of the late Vincenzo Sposito who died in 2003; loving mother of Angela Maria (Antonio) Troiano , Carmela (Mario) Migliore and Michael (Nancy O’Keefe) Sposito all of Latham; adored grandmother of Luigia “Gina” (Michael) Taccone, Alessandro “Alex” (Jessica) Troiano, Fortunata “Nata” (Angelo) Paglialonga, Vincenzo “Vinnie” (Marina) Migliore, Michael Sposito and Lea Sposito; great grandmother of Mia, Tristan, Jude, Matteo and Domenica; sister of Giuseppina D’Amico of Italy and was predeceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Italy and the USA.
The funeral will be Saturday at 8:15 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 9 am at St. Ambrose Church, Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Troy. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday (today) from 4-7 pm.
