Obituary for Doris J. Wood (Dennis)

Newtonville - Doris J. Wood, 96, died on Monday, July 31, 2017 at her home in Newtonville, following a brief illness. She was the widow of Donald S. Wood.

Born in Painted Post, Steuben County, New York, she was the daughter of the late Grover C. and Alice E. (Herrick) Dennis. She moved to Newtonville in 1960.

Mrs. Wood was a member of the Newtonville United Methodist Church and its United Women’s Society; and was a member of the Willetta Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Latham.

She is survived by a daughter, Jeanne A. Chesney of Newtonville; two sons, Dennis G. Wood of Slingerlands and Kevin C. (Kathleen) Wood of Vestal; five grandchildren, Jeannette (Scott) Mann, Christopher Wood, Erick Wood, Katie (Matthew) Polacco and Margaret Grace Wood; three great-grandchildren, Foster and Gabriel Mann and Luca Kane Polacco. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Elizabeth McCarthy and Alton Dennis.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Sunday at 2 pm in the Newtonville United Methodist Church, Route 9 and Maxwell Road, Newtonville. Pastor Steven Smith and Pastor Jeannette Mann, Mrs. Wood’s granddaughter, will officiate. There will be no visiting hours prior to the service.
