WATERVLIET – Paul M. “Picker” Connell, Jr., 61, died suddenly Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after being stricken at home. Born in Troy on January 23, 1956, he was the son of the late Paul M. and Nan Riley Connell, Sr.
Paul was a lifelong resident of Watervliet and graduated from St. Patrick’s Grammar School, LaSalle Institute in Troy and later attended Albany Business College.
Paul was employed by Al Tech Specialty Steel for 17 years until their closing. He currently was the acting foreman for the City of Watervliet Water Department where he was faithfully employed day and night for 27 ½ years serving the citizens of Watervliet.
“Picker” was a member of the Watervliet Elks Lodge #1500 and the Watervliet K of C. He was a member of the Larry’s Tavern Dart League, was a Green Bay Packer football fan, enjoyed golf and being at home watching sports especially football and NASCAR.
He was a devoted husband , father and brother. His smile and kind way made him a friend to not only his lifelong friends from Larry’s, but throughout the City of Watervliet where he was loved by everyone.
He is the beloved husband of Renee Sickles Connell whom he married on April 17, 1993; the proudest dad of Ryan Michael Connell and Casey Anne Connell; dear brother of Patricia (Norman) Buechner of Florida and the late Anne T. Connell; cherished uncle of Thomas Buechner and Eric (Tanya) Buechner. He is also survived by several in laws, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Wednesday from 4-7 pm. The funeral mass will be Thursday at 10 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
