Obituary for Ruth D. Brothers (Gregware)

TROY – Ruth D. Gregware Brothers, 95, died peacefully Monday, September 4, 2017 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with her family at her side. Born in Green Island on February 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Edward E. and Hazel L. Goyer Gregware.
Ruth was raised and educated in Watervliet. She also lived in Connecticut, Johnsonville and most recently in Troy for the past 15 years.
She was employed by Covert Manufacturing, the Watervliet Arsenal and Tek Hughes all in Watervliet and the NYS Dept. of Taxation & Finance.
Ruth was a member of the Truth & Spirit Gospel Lighthouse Church in Cambridge.
She was the wife of the late William J. Brothers, former Police Chief of the Watervliet Police Dept., who died November 8, 2008; loving mother of Barbara S. (Barry E.) Larson of Latham and the late William J. Halse; adored grandmother of Frank B. Mastan and Joella (Dale) Thomson both of Latham, Christine (Ed) Goldman of Florida and William J. (Sabrina) Halse of Mechanicville; great grandmother of Jade, Julianna, Shelby, Nicholi, Sabatino and Onika.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Edward, Donald and Norman Gregware, Lorraine Slickko, Norma Howansky, Shirley Johnson and Carol Picozzi. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 10:00 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with Rev. Marlon Galamore officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 33 Everett Road, Albany, NY 12205 to assist Texas with Hurricane Harvey.
