Obituary for Ronald B. Carey

Ronald B.  Carey
LATHAM – Ronald B. Carey, 87, died peacefully Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Baptist Health Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Scotia. Born in Troy on September 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mildred Bliss Carey.
Ron was raised in Brunswick and was a graduate of Troy High School. He was a member of the US Navy Reserves for 8 years. He was employed at General Electric in Schenectady early in his working career.
He began working for the Town of Colonie in April of 1967 and became Chief of Fire Prevention & Investigations in 1975 and served the citizens of Colonie until his retirement in 1991. He also was a volunteer dispatcher for the Town of Colonie for many years.
The fire service was his life beginning his career in the fire service in 1958. He was a life member and a Past Assistant Chief of the Verdoy Volunteer Fire Department.
Ron loved traveling with his late wife Mary in their motorhome throughout the United States.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Masterson Carey who died in 1991; devoted father of Michael R. (Patty) Carey of Latham, Robert L. (Sherry) Carey of Nashua, NH and William J. (Toni) Carey of Henderson, NV; brother of the late Douglas Carey and Robert L. Carey. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and his companion of 6 years at Atria Shaker Assisted Living, Diane Szypulski.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road in Latham on Saturday from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm with the Verdoy Fire Department Last Call Service at 1:00 pm.
