Elizabeth H. "Betty"  Benson (Hudak)
COHOES – Elizabeth “Betty” Hudak Benson, 92, formerly of Watervliet and Latham, died peacefully Monday, September 25, 2017 at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes, comforted by her children.
Born in Troy on July 29, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna Urda Hudak. Betty was raised and educated in Maplewood and graduated from Watervliet High School.
She was employed prior to her marriage by the Pioneer Savings & Loan and New York Telephone Company. She then raised her family in Watervliet and returned to work in 1971 for the American Lung Association and retired in1983 as the financial development director. Betty & her husband moved to Latham in 1995.
Betty loved being with her family and enjoyed cooking; painting with oils and acrylics, and drawing with pastels; music and dancing. She sang in the choir at St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church and attended St. Patrick’s and St. Brigid’s Church in Watervliet.
She enjoyed travel, especially trips to Italy, Florida, New Orleans and San Diego, along with vacations in Bethany Beach, Ogunquit, Long Island and Cape Cod.
She was the beloved wife of the late John F. “Jack” Benson, Sr., who died in 1995; loving mother of John F. “Jack” (Catherine M. Baker) Benson, Jr. of Wynantskill, Colleen A. (Gregg W. Anderson) Benson of Latham and Timothy F. (Diane M.) Benson of Loudonville; adored grandmother of Erin A. Benson (Brian R.) Knight of Portland, ME, Brian T. Benson of Portland, ME and Darcy C. Benson of Columbus, OH; sister of the late Jewel Moore, Nicholas and Olga Hudak, Ann Milnarik and Antoinette Ziegler; aunt of May Beck, June Faris, Patricia Tworek, Antoinette Hubbard, John L. Ryan, Donna Almeter, and the late Gregory and Jeffery Ziegler; and several grand- and great grand- nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care provided by the shahbaz and nursing staff of House 7, as well as the dieticians, caseworker, and occupational, physical and speech therapy staff of the Eddy Village Green of Cohoes.
The funeral will be Monday, October 9th at 9:30 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6 pm.
