WATERVLIET- Roland (Ron) Bruce, 75, died peacefully Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at St. Mary’s in Amsterdam, NY after a short illness. Born in Lockport, NY on December 11, 1941, he was the son of the late Eugene and Elsie (Chase) Bruce.
He was raised in Watervliet and was a 1960 graduate of Watervliet High School and later in life received his Associates degree from Hudson Valley Community College. Ron married his high school sweetheart, the late Maria Bonomo Bruce in 1961, and they began to raise their family together.
Ron was an Air Force veteran and worked in manufacturing his entire life, including locally at the former Ford plant, Adirondack Steel, Watervliet Arsenal and Garden Way Manufacturing. He retired from Cardish Machine Works.
He was the beloved husband of Maria Bruce who preceded him in death on January, 18 2016; devoted father of Mark A. (Sandra) Bruce of Elizabethtown, PA, Scott M. (Andrea) Bruce of Saratoga Springs, Todd J. Bruce of Watervliet and the late Dean E. Bruce who died in 2001; adored grandfather of James Bruce, Shannon Bruce, Ashley Martin, Holly Jones, Derek Bruce and Corinne Bruce; great grandfather of Ian Bruce, John Steciuk, Margaret Jones and Aria Martin; brother of Patricia (Bruce) Darmetko.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no public calling hours. Ron will be buried next to his wife, Maria, and son, Dean, in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
