Obituary for Gilbert Shadick Jr.

Latham – Gilbert Shadick, Jr., of Latham, passed away on October 11, 2017 with his loving family by his side.

Born in Albany on May 7, 1924, he was the son of the late Gilbert Sr. and Minnie Siefert Shadick. As soon as he was of age Gilbert joined the Army Air Corps and served his country proudly during World War II. His tours of active duty brought him to Japan, Okinawa, and the Philippines. Upon returning home from service he began working as a butcher for Tobin Packing in West Albany, and stayed there until they closed down 37 years later. Gilbert also ran his own pool servicing company, Shadick Pool Service, for over 20 years. He was always a strong, hard-working man who could take on anything.

When not hard at work, Gilbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, and most importantly, spending time with his beloved family at different parties and gatherings.

Gilbert is survived by the love of his life, Pearl White Shadick, with whom he shared 68 blissful years of marriage. His memory also lives on in their two daughters; Sandra (Edward) Asprion of Valley Falls, and Hope (Mark) LaCrosse of Latham, his grandchildren; Danielle Han of Virginia, and Paul LaCrosse of Maryland, and his great-grandson, Trevor Saville. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 10 AM at the Bowen and Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham, with interment to follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Friends and relatives may visit with Gilbert’s family on Friday evening, October 13, 2017 from 4 until 7 PM.
