Obituary for James T. Gorman

WATERVLIET – James T. Gorman, 85, died Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Albany Co. Nursing Home with his family at his side. Born in Watervliet on December 2, 1931, he was the son of the late James W. and Eleanor Ringer Gorman.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Watervliet. He met his late wife Cecelia at his first job at the Jupiter Silk Mill on Broadway in Watervliet. He later was employed as a machinist for 36 years at the Adirondack Steel Casting Co. in Watervliet. He retired from the Albany Co. Family Courthouse where he was a maintenance worker for 19 years.
Jim was very mechanically inclined and loved to work in his tool shed repairing lawn mowers and tinkering with his car. He remodeled all his family’s homes, enjoyed bowling, playing cards and jitterbug dancing.
He was the beloved husband of the late Cecelia L. Ploof Gorman who died in 2011; devoted father of James W. (Isabelle) Gorman of Latham, William J. (Donna) Gorman of Watervliet, Michael S. Gorman of Cohoes, Kimberly (Keith) Miller of Washington Crossing, PA and the late Susan Gorman; proud grandfather of William (Danielle) Gorman, Jr., Scott and Gina Gorman, James Joseph and Andrew Gorman, Alexa, Brett, Christian and Derek Miller; great grandfather of Kaila and Cecilia; brother of Shirley Fleming of Cohoes, Barbara Durocher of Watervliet, Dorothy Guerin of Troy and the late Edward Gorman, Eleanor VanAlstyne and Ruth Loftus. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Albany Co. Nursing Home especially the nurses on 5 Highrise and the Activities Department.
Family and close friends may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Friday from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm followed by the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Interment Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Latham.
