Obituary for Michael J. Coakley

LATHAM – Michael J. Coakley, 32, died suddenly Saturday, December 16, 2017. Born in Albany on September 17, 1985, he is the oldest child of Gael and Karen Hoffman Coakley of Latham.
Michael was a graduate of St. Gregory’s School for Boys and a 2004 graduate of Shaker High School. He spent a gap year in Malaga, Spain before returning to college at Northeastern University in Boston where he received his bachelor’s degree in International Affairs in 2010.
Michael worked in the family business from 2010-2013 before moving to Houston, TX to work as a buyer for McLane Global. He returned home in 2016 and was currently employed as a buyer for Finch Paper Company in Glens Falls.
He enjoyed traveling, cooking, golf and was a Boston sports fan rooting for the Red Sox, Celtics and the Bruins. He loved his family and in the last year, lived with and helped take care of his maternal grandmother, Claire.
In addition to his loving parents, he is the best brother of Claire C. (Brian) Groudine of Loudonville, Christopher G. Coakley and Timothy R. Coakley both of Latham; beloved boyfriend of Denise M. Delaney of Latham; maternal grandson of Claire M. Waugh Hoffman and the late Robert A. Hoffman of Latham; paternal grandson of Betsy Coakley of Centerville, MA and the late Gael Coakley; godson of Deborah M. Hoffman of Latham. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and his cherished dog and cat, Mr. B and Pickles.
His funeral mass will be Wednesday at 11:15 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
