Obituary for Richard J. Gladwin

BALLSTON LAKE –Richard J. Gladwin, 66, formerly of Rome and Menands, passed peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Northeast Center for Rehabilitation, Lake Katrine, NY.

Rick was born June 5, 1951, in Utica, raised in Rome, NY, the beloved son of the late Andrew D. and Vera J. (Young) Gladwin. He was a Regents graduate of Rome Catholic High School, Fulton Montgomery Community Collge (AS in Engineering Science) SUNY at Buffalo (BS in Civil Engineering) and SUNY at Albany (Graduate Certifice in Economics).

After college, Rick worked for the Watervliet Housing Authority as a Civil Engineer, the pride and joy of his career. Later his career included engineering positions for two NYS Departments. He assisted in the family rental business and became the sole caregiver for his mom, dad and youngest brother, Dale.

Rick enjoyed fishing, food, friends, especially Bob, Cely, Howard, Judy and the OC Ski Club.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Frederick of Rome and James of Rosedale, NY.
Rick is survived by two brothers, Andrew Gladwin, Jr. (Valerie) of East Greenbush and Dale Gladwin of Moncks Corner, SC; his 7 sisters, Sandrea DeNicola (Frank) of Visalia, CA, Andrea Schmidt (Steve) of Orange, CT, Mary Spina (Jay) of Charlotte, NC, Kathleen Payne (Mick) of Moncks Corners, SC, Debra Norman (Jim) of Lake Stevens, WA, Karen Layman (Don) of Rome, NY, and Agnes Tarbett (Wayne) of Burke, VA.

The funeral service will be held Thursday (today), December 21st at 5:30 PM at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Interment will be at the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Utica on Friday, December 22nd at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday prior to the service from 4-6 PM..

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick’s memory may be made to the Watervliet Housing Authority Development Fund for Santa Visits, 2400 2nd Avenue, Watervliet, NY 12189.
