Obituary for Anthony John Ferro

Troy – Anthony John Ferro, 85, of Troy, passed away after a long illness at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Born in Watervliet on July 25, 1932, he was the son of the late Sebastiano and Concetta Ferro.
Tony was born and raised in Watervliet and attended Watervliet High. After high school he served in the US Navy for 4 years aboard the USS Nespelen. Upon returning home he was employed briefly by General Electric in Schenectady. He then chose a different path and enrolled in the Royal Barber Academy in Schenectady. Tony then worked as a barber in both Watervliet and Latham from 1958 until 1964. In 1964, Tony and his cousin Sal Mamone opened up the Hudson Valley Barber Shop in Troy. Together, they ran a successful barbershop that served countless patrons for over 30 years.
Tony retired in 1997 and devoted most of his free time to his greatest joy, his family. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. When not cutting hair or going to his grandsons’ sporting events, Tony had a love for music and dancing, and also enjoyed bowling, going to the movies, and traveling. He was also a longtime member of the Troy Lodge of Elks #141.
Tony is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary (Tangredi) Ferro, his 2 daughters; Connie (David) Esposito of Troy, and Gina (David) Rossi of Clifton Park, his 5 grandsons; Zachary (Brittany) Esposito, Alexander Esposito, Antonio Rossi, Nicholas Rossi, and Jorden Esposito, his great-grandson, Alonzo Esposito, his brother, John (Theresa) Ferro, and by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Tony was preceded in death by his sisters and their husbands; Angeline (Gene) Altieri, Frances (Donald) Marilla, Mary (Francis) Huttner, and Genetta (Hugh) Rogers, and by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Gloria Tangredi.
Tony’s family would like to extend a warm and special “thank-you” to his personal caregivers, Chrystal and Nicole for their outstanding and loving care they provided for Tony.
A visitation will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 3 until 7 PM at Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, Watervliet. A funeral mass will be held Monday, January 15, 2018, 9 AM from the funeral home, 10 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Troy. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Troy.
