Obituary for William C. Halse

WATERVLIET – William Carmen Halse, 81, died peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2018 in the comfort of his home with his family by his side.

Born in Watervliet on February 4, 1936, William was the son of Irving F. and Rose (Pincher) Halse. A graduate of Watervliet High School, he took employment with the Behr Manning Company in Watervliet and shortly after, enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his service. William returned home and to his job with the Behr-Manning Company, later the Norton Company, where he worked for 30 years before his retirement. He was later employed by the North Colonie School District as a bus driver and had also worked, part-time, as an independent butcher.

William was a member of the Colonie Lodge of Elks and the Free and Accepted Masons. He enjoyed his garden and will be remembered for having a green thumb with a special knack for growing garlic and producing delicious peaches from his trees. He loved hunting, salmon fishing, taking long drives and vacationing on the coast in Maine and Florida.

He is survived by his daughters, Lynn Halse (Paul Ruhl) of Watervliet and Kim Murphy (Jim) of East Greenbush; grandchildren, Casey Caswell, Madison Ruhl and Ryan Murphy; sister, M. Jane Cesare of Latham and his companion, Anita Wells. Also surviving are a niece and a nephew.
