WATERFORD – Harvey J. Hems, 79, of Van Schoonhoven Square Apartments, died unexpectedly on January 30, 2018.
Born in Troy, NY on December 21, 1938, Harvey was the son of the late Harvey and Eileen (Sargent) Hems. He was raised and educated in Troy and served in the Army Reserves. Harvey was employed by Adirondack Steel in Watervliet for 23 years and by Montgomery Ward and Company for 10 years. He retired from Samaritan Hospital in Troy where he was employed in the maintenance department.
Harvey was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed fishing at Cossayuna Lake.
He resided in Waterford for the past ten years.
Harvey was the loving father of Debbie Hill (Steve McMurry) of Argyle, Tim Hems (Colleen) of Mechanicville, Wendy Bradley of Natick, MA, Kristie Ryan (Patrick) of Brunswick, Dawn Cornwell (Art) of Clifton Park and Todd M. Hems (Kendra) of Mechanicville; grandfather of Michael and Matthew Hill, Connor McMurry, Morgan, Maddy and Max Hems, Cassidy and Aidan Bradley, McKenna and Dylan Ryan, Joshua Cornwell and Grady Hems; great-grandfather of Chase, Blake and Price Hill; brother of Jack Hems (Janet), James Hems (late Shirley), Karen Miller (Dave), Suzie Scott (Jeff), Thomas (Colleen) Hems and the late Sharon Brower; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Friday at 12:30 pm in the Parker Brothers Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy. Friends are invited and may also visit with Harvey’s family on Friday, prior to the service, from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm.
