Obituary for Raymond John Sheridan Jr.

West Lebanon, NY - Raymond “Ray” J. Sheridan Jr. died peacefully just after his 87th birthday on February 2, 2018. Born on February 1, 1931, he was the son of the late Raymond and Odile Sheridan and grew up in Ozone Park, NY. He graduated in 1949 from Brooklyn Technical High School and was in the Transportation Corps of the Army Reserves. He was a Service Technician for Monroe Systems for Business for 44 years, repairing calculators for businesses in Eastern New York and Western Massachusetts.
Ray was an avid skier and was also a ski instructor. His lifelong love affair with Gail began when he met her on a ski trip. They were married in 1959, and soon after relocated to West Lebanon, NY, where they raised their four children. Ray was a scout leader, cheerleader dad, adventurer, and chauffeur extraordinaire. He loved history, and the family road trips generally included historical markers, forts and battlefields. Ray enjoyed tent camping, especially in Florida; going to the beach; cruising to different ports, including his favorite, Bermuda; and his high school reunions.
Ray is survived by his wife, Gail J. Sheridan, of West Lebanon, NY and Randolph, VT; his sister, Odile Proctor of Bridgewater, VA; his sister Loretta Dunn of North Merrick, NY; his daughter, Susan Fredette (Emile) of Randolph, VT, his son Brian Sheridan (Bonnie) of Durham, NC; his daughter, Janet Horvath of Nottingham, NH; his grandchildren: Nicholas Becker of Durham, NC; Brendan Sheridan (Amanda) of Durham, NC; Benjamin Sheridan of Durham, NC; Shane Horvath (Chelsea) of Northwood, NH; Michaela Horvath of Greenville, SC; and Evan Horvath of Rock Hill, SC. He had 3 great-grandchildren: Wyatt Dailey, Melanie Young and Ella Jayde Horvath, and was anticipating the arrival of great-grandson Horvath in April. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children. Ray was predeceased by his son, Michael; his sister, Marion, and nephews Charles and Robert.
A visitation will be held at Hall and Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, NY on Friday, February 9, from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, New Lebanon, NY on Saturday, February 10 at 12 noon. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, Queens, NY at a later date.
