Obituary for Janice W. Bowen (Wilson)

Newtonville - Janice W. Bowen entered into rest on February 11, 2018 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, New York.
Janice Wilson Bowen was the wife of 54 years to Arthur E. Bowen of Newtonville, New York and daughter of the late Ralph J. and Dorothy A. (Williams) Wilson.
Born in Troy, New York she attended Averill Park Schools, graduated from Averill Park High School in 1957 and graduated with a bachelors of Science degree in business, with honors, from Russell Sage College, Troy, New York in 1961.
She was employed as a secretary at Union National Bank, Troy until 1968 when she took over as office manager and chief obituary writer at the Bowen Funeral Home in Watervliet, New York. She helped with the planning and decorating of the Bowen Funeral Home in Latham, New York in 1970 and several additions to the funeral home. She retired in June of 2007.
Janice enjoyed cruises and traveling by car throughout the United States and Canada. She especially enjoyed visiting national parks and museums. She was a member of the Newtonville United Methodist Church where she had served as treasurer, finance committee member and later as keeper of the church membership records for several years. She was a board member of Senior Care Connection, Schenectady, New York until it became part of Eddy Health Care.
In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons; Robert (Barbara) Bowen, Latham, New York and James (Cathleen) Bowen, Santa Clara, California; one sister, Dianne E. Wilson, Melbourne, Florida where Janice enjoyed holiday visits for the past nine years; and one niece, Kathryn (William) Hubert, Glens Falls, New York.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 10 am in the Newtonville United Methodist Church, 568 Loudon Road, (corner of Route 9 and Maxwell Road), Newtonville. Interment will follow in Albany Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Janice’s family on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, from 4 until 7 pm at the Bowen & Parker Brothers Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham, New York.
