Obituary for Robert "Skitch" Henderson, Sr.

Robert "Skitch" Henderson, Sr.
Watervliet – Robert Paul “Skitch” Henderson, Sr., 71, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 18, 2018.

Born in Nashua, NH, on October 29, 1946, Robert was the son of Mrs. L. Beatrice (Lavarnway) Henderson of Watervliet and the late Arthur Robert “Bob” Henderson. Robert had resided in Watervliet since the age of four and was a graduate of the former Sacred Heart of Mary School and Watervliet High School. He was employed as an electronics technician for many years, initially working for companies such as Sear, Roebuck and Company and Montgomery Ward and Company and later founded and operated Henderson’s TV Repair in Watervliet. For the past 25 years, Robert was employed by Albany Amusement of Watervliet.

He enjoyed playing the steel guitar and the acoustical guitar and had been a member of a band for a number of years. A great handyman, Robert could fix or repair just about anything. Above all else, Robert loved nothing more than the times spent with family and he especially enjoyed Wednesday evening dinners, with his entire family, at his mother’s house in Watervliet.

Robert was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Watervliet.

Robert’s family offers their heartfelt thanks to the Watervliet Police Department, especially Sergeant Brian Strock, the Watervliet Fire Department and Paramedics and the doctors, nurses and staff of the Emergency Department at Samaritan Hospital for their professionalism and care given to Robert.

In addition to his mother, Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Sandra L. (Kerber) Henderson; his loving children, Robert Paul Henderson, Jr. and his wife Christine of Halfmoon, David John Henderson and his wife Jennifer of Loudonville, Christine LaFrance and her husband Eric of Niskayuna and Lynn Harkins and her husband Benjamin of Wilton; his cherished grandchildren, Robert Henderson, III, Sean Henderson, Cameran Henderson, Justin Henderson, Sophia and Emily Calacone and Travis Harkins; his dear sisters, Mary Anne Irvine and her husband Ralph, Carol Jean Kerber, and Cheryl Ann Gordon and Her husband Elmer all of Watervliet. Robert was preceded in death by his sister Donna Marie Halpin (Gilligan) and his nephew Robert Kerber.

His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:15am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10 am in Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Church, 25th Street and 7th Avenue, Watervliet. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Friends are invited and may also visit with Robert’s family on Friday from 4 until 7 pm at the funeral home. For those who prefer, his family suggests contributions to the Food Pantry at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2416-7th Avenue, Watervliet, NY 12189 in his memory.
