Obituary for Edward M. Ritoch

Pittstown – Edward Michael Ritoch, 76, passed away suddenly after a brief illness on April 5, 2018. Born in Johnson City, NY on September 12, 1941, he was the son of the late Michael and Helen Ritoch.

Ed grew up in Binghamton and was a 1960 graduate of Binghamton North High. After graduation he went on to study Respiratory Therapy at Hudson Valley Community College, where he received his Associate Degree. He parlayed his education into a career at St. Mary’s Hospital where he worked as Director of Cardiopulmonary Services and a Respiratory Therapist until his retirement in 2003. Ed also proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1966-1969.

In his retirement Ed enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing racquetball, collecting Lionel trains, stamps and coins, and an evening at the casino. He also enjoyed traveling; some of his favorite trips were cruises, visiting family in Slovakia, Las Vegas, and winters in Florida.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Sheila (Woodruff) Ritoch, his two children; Jennifer (late Matthew) Ritoch-Ratelle of Brunswick, and Ralph Ritoch of the Philippines. His grandchildren; Kylie Ritoch, Connor and Matthew Ratelle, all of Brunswick. His brother-in-law, Thomas Woodruff of Johnson City. He was preceded in death by his two siblings; Sandra Kilmer and Donald Ritoch.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, April 9, from 4 until 7 PM at Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, Watervliet. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 10, 9 AM at Parker Bros., 10 AM at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s memory may be made to the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Lane Suite B, Centennial, CO 80112. Or to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204.
