Obituary for Suren J. Hrachian

Suren J. Hrachian
TROY - Suren Joseph Hrachian passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2018, at the age of 101. Born in Albany on October 8, 1916, Suren was the son of the late Harazad and Nectar (Mouradian) Hrachian. He was raised in Watervliet and was a graduate of Watervliet High School. He later attended the former New York State Teacher's College in Albany now SUNY Albany. Suren worked in the dry cleaning industry for much of his life. In 1947 he founded Master Cleaners in Guilderland, a business he operated until the mid 1970's. He continued as a consultant in the industry for a number of years, and in September of 1983, along with his son-in-law, Edward Kaprielian, founded Executive Cleaners at Stuyvesant Plaza. Truly a master cleaner, Suren took his work to heart and through the years developed and perfected many techniques used in dry cleaning. Suren considered his work as an art form and he strove to provide his customers with a perfect product, sometimes working late into the night to achieve his goal and not disappoint his customer. Suren was active in local and national dry cleaning associations and was the recipient of numerous industry awards. He was a member of the Guilderland Volunteer Fire Department, a charter member of Guilderland Kiwanis, a charter member of the Guilderland Business Association, and he was a life-long member of St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet where he served as trustee, godfather to the church and parish council chairman. In retirement, Suren enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending the winter months on Marco Island in Florida. He had a warm and happy relationship with his large, extended family and with several life-long dear close friends. He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great source of pride for him. He is survived by Sarah (Kenosian) Hrachian, his beloved wife of 78 years, to whom he was married on September 3, 1939; his loving children, Lucille (Edward) Kaprielian, Barbara Hrachian and Seren (Pamela) Hrachian; his cherished grandchildren, Michael Kaprielian, Susan (Kai) Wendt, Christa (Kevin) Lukasik, Peter (Audrey) Hrachian and Stephen (Kiley)Hrachian; his adoring great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Miranda and Malcolm Kaprielian, Emma and Finn Wendt, Zoey, Caroline and Kiera Lukasik as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to his parents, Suren was preceded in death by his sisters, Adrena Uram and Vergine Novak. The Hrachian family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy for the loving and dedicated care offered to Suren during his stay. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church, 100 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet. Interment will follow in the Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.
