Obituary for Michael J. Deukmejian, Jr.

Watervliet - Michael Deukmejian Jr. passed away peacefully on May 8, 2018 with his daughter holding his hand.

Born on June 17, 1946, Michael was a lifelong resident of Watervliet, NY, and was preceded in death by his parents. The grandson of Armenian Genocide survivors who found freedom immigrating to the US, Mike learned the meaning of work ethic, held many jobs and finally retired from South Colonie School District in 2015 at age 69. He was a loyal Yankees fan, loved going to casinos, and especially enjoyed the races in Saratoga. Mike travelled every summer to Wildwood, NJ and cherished being on the shore. He also loved cruises and went to the Bahamas and Mexico. His last big trip was for his 70th birthday to visit his daughter in LA and then onto Vegas.

His family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Shaffer and Dr. Benjamin for their compassionate care; a special thank you to all the nurses who treated Mike, especially Joanna and Nicole at NYOH.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Cindy Deukmejian, his brother, Ed Deukmejian (Peg) and his nephews, Brian, Eric and Mark. He is also survived by two aunts and several cousins.

At 10 am on Saturday a prayer service will be held at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Interment will follow in the Albany Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Mike’s family on Friday from 4 until 7 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made in Mike’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
