Obituary for Leo J. Strack

Watervliet – Leo J. Strack, 86, of Watervliet, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, June 18, 2018 at Van Rensselaer Manor. Born on April 7, 1932, he was the son of the late Thomas and Laura Strack.
Leo, along with his 16 siblings, grew up in the Watervliet and Troy areas. He was a 1950 graduate of Catholic Central HS. Shortly after graduation Leo served his country by joining the US Army. He eventually retired from Al Tech Specialty Steel in Watervliet after 27 years. Leo was an avid bowler and golfer, having achieved both a 300 game and a hole-in-one in his lifetime. He also enjoyed fishing and the Adirondacks. Nothing brought him more joy, however, than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Leo is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Lovely Strack, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. He is also survived by their children; Barbara (Joseph) Cocco of Grafton, John Strack of Oregon, David Strack of Watervliet, James Strack of Wisconsin, Elaine (Rich Sebast) Grigg of Cohoes, Thomas (Judy) Strack of Ballston Spa, and Leo (Kelly) Strack of Watervliet, his sister, Eva Krause of Watervliet, and by his many adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, the late Paul Strack, and by 15 of his siblings.
Leo’s family would like to thank all of the angels on the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor who gave him such loving care over the past year.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 20, from 5 to 7 PM at Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, Watervliet. A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at 7 PM. Those who wish to remember Leo in special way may consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011, or to Van Rensselaer Manor Activities Dept., 85 Bloomingrove Drive, Troy, NY 12180.
