Obituary for Clarence Leigh Hammond Jr.

HANCOCK, MA – Clarence Leigh Hammond, Jr., 90, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the North Adams Commons. Born in Manchester, NH on August 4, 1928, he was the son of the late Clarence Leigh and Lila Comstock Hammond, Sr.

Clarence was raised and educated in Williamstown, MA and worked on a family farm and logged in Petersburgh, NY. In 1970, he opened Soup and Such Restaurant and Mobil Gas Station in Williamstown which he ran until 1995 when it was sold. He then moved to Hancock, MA where he lived for 42 years. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons.

He was the husband of the late Marjorie Ralph Hammond who died in 2006; stepfather of Marsha Dunn-Klein (Donald) of Tuscon, AZ, Brian Dunn (Antoinette) of Sedona, AZ, David Dunn (Cathy) of North Adams, MA and Sheldon Dunn (Yen) of Bataan, Phillipines; brother of Richard Hammond of Petersburgh and the late Jeanne Stone (late David). He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, NY on Friday, December 14th from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Hancock Cemetery.
