Obituary for J. Kevin O'Dea

J. Kevin O'Dea
Latham - J. Kevin “Lucky” O’Dea died suddenly on July 25 at Albany Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Sharon O’Dea; two children, Dylan O’Dea and Heather (Jacques) Goulet; two grandchildren, Conor and Harper Goulet, an uncle, three nieces, and several cousins.
Kevin was born September 24, 1952, in Albany NY. He was the son of James and Mary (Casey) O’Dea. Kevin graduated from Watervliet High School in 1970. In 1971 he married his wife Sharon and they started a family in Menands NY, eventually moving to the current family home in Latham. Kevin worked as a salesman for most of his career, with Keis Beverages, Wine Merchants, Eber Brothers, and then with Southern Wine and Spirits at the time of his retirement. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the Village of Menands for years and served for a time as the treasurer. Kevin had a long-suffering love of the Buffalo Bills and the Detroit Tigers that no degree of heartache would dampen. He loved spending time with his many friends, golfing, and travelling with his family. He had a motorcycle he very much enjoyed riding, which he purchased years ago while his wife was in Ireland travelling with their daughter, and a boat he only recently purchased while his wife was again in Ireland travelling with their daughter. In the last several years, he found great joy playing with his grandchildren, who were his best buddies.
A memorial service will be held at the Parker Bros Memorial, 2013 Broadway in Watervliet on Saturday at 10:30 am. Friends are invited and may also visit with Kevin’s family on Saturday from 9:30 am until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Derek Murphy Fund, 4 South Colonial Heights Troy, NY 12180.
