Obituary for Judith Marie Barefield

Ballston Lake, NY – Judith Marie Barefield passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the age of 74.

Born in Wallace, NC on December 17, 1943, Judith was the daughter of Ira and Evelyn (Forlaw) Barefield. Judith’s father passed away when she was very young and her mother married John Hillis who Judith came to know and love as her father.

She relocated to this area at the age of 18 and obtained her nursing degree from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. Early in her career, Judith was employed as a registered nurse at both Leonard and Cohoes Hospitals before accepting the position of occupational health nurse for General Electric in Schenectady from where she retired after 30 years of employment.

Judith loved to read and visit her brother David in North Carolina. She enjoyed studying politics and spending times with her grandchildren. In retirement she often blended kindness and her nursing experience to assist family and friends with their health care.

She was the much loved mother of Christine M. (Eric) Goodness of Saratoga Springs, NY and the late John M. Krause; the cherished grandmother of the late Eddie McBain, Erica McBain, Zoey Goodness, Justin, John and Johnna Krause; the dear sister of David K. (Alicia) Barefield of Newport, NC; the aunt of the late Adam Barefield; the cousin of Maribeth Hughes and Kyle Hughes.

Judith’s family offers a heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff of the Emergency Department of Ellis Hospital, Dr. Robert Parks, Dr. Mark Jordan, Dr. Arthur Vakiener and Dr. Satish Madiraju for the wonderful care given to Judith and for the support offered to her family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 6 pm in the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Judith’s family, prior to the service on Saturday, from 4 until 6 pm.

To those who wish to remember Judith in a special way, donations would be appreciated to Adam’s Closet, an organization that provides outerwear and shoes to children in need. Checks may be made to Swansboro Rotary Foundation (indicate Adams Closet in the memo), P.O. Box 1815, Swansboro, NC 28584.
