Obituary for Richard M. "Pete" Hoag

Richard M. "Pete"  Hoag
HOOSICK FALLS – Richard M. “Pete” Hoag, 79, died Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. Born in Troy on July 3, 1938, he was the son of the late Raymond and Dorothy Dunham Hoag.
He resided on Breese Hollow Road in Hoosick all of his life. He was a US Navy veteran from 1959-1963 serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He was employed as a truck driver for Greenberg’s Hardware and Merrill Transport both in Bennington. In 1972, he purchased his first truck and began Hoag’s Trucking Company which he operated for over 30 years before retiring. He had four trucks on the road at the peak of the business.
He was a member of the Bennington VFW Post #1332. He also maintained a small farm on his land and enjoyed driving his four wheel drive “Gator” around the property. He loved his dogs, Harvey, Killer and Suzie.
He is the beloved husband of the late Anna W. Ramage Hoag who died in 2015; devoted father of Ted (Connie) Hoag of Gansevoort; step-father of Darlene (Russ) Stillion of Senecaville, OH and Pollyanna Rose of Canton, OH; grandfather of Kenneth and Daniel Hoag; great grandfather of Spencer Cadence Hoag; brother of Jeanne Northrop of Connecticut, Judy (David) Mello of Galway, David (Robin) Hoag of Shaftsbury, VT, Rob Hoag of Hoosick Falls and the late Alan Hoag. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held Wednesday, May 16th at 12:00 noon at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bennington VFW Post #1332, 137 North Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
