GUILDERLAND – Mary Mabel Murphy, 94, died Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Albany County Nursing Home in Colonie. Born in Troy on June 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Mabel Donahue Murphy.
Mabel was raised and educated in Troy and graduated from St. Peter’s Academy and Catholic Central High School, class of 1941. She later graduated from Mildred Elley Business School.
She was employed by the Watervliet Arsenal for a brief period. She retired from the New York State Department of Taxation & Finance in 1982 as the Director of Personnel after 40 years of service to New York State.
Mabel lived in Albany for many years before moving to Guilderland in 1987. She was a former communicant of Christ the King Church in Westmere.
Mabel enjoyed researching her Irish geneaology, had written a few children’s books and especially loved her treasured nieces and nephews.
She is the beloved sister of Jean M. Caldwell of Latham; adored aunt of Kevin Caldwell, Michael (Dawn) Caldwell, Timothy (Susan) Caldwell, Kathleen (Frederick) McGraw and Maureen (Keith) Kostanoski. She is also survived by 14 grandnieces and grandnephews and 4 great grandnieces and great grandnephews.
The funeral will be Monday morning at 9:30 am from the Cummings Funeral Home, 643 Third Avenue (Rt. 32 South of Arsenal), Watervliet and at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Geoffrey Burke, Pastor. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Cummings Funeral Home on Monday prior to the mass from 8:30-9:30 pm.
