WATERVLIET – John A. Ferro, 93, entered into eternal life on Friday, November 16, 2018.

Born in Watervliet on November 23, 1924, John was the son of the late Sebastian and Concetta (Ascenzo) Ferro. He was a life-long resident of Watervliet and a graduate of Watervliet High School.

While employed at the Watervliet Arsenal, John enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II in the European Theater. John participated in battles in the Ardennes, Central Europe and Rhineland and was honorably discharged from service on December 23, 1945, and awarded the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

John was married in 1947 to the love of his life, Theresa R. Nucci Ferro, who survives him. Together they have shared more than 71 years of marriage.

John was employed, as a machinist, for 46 years by the Norton Company in Watervliet. He was a proud veteran and past commander of the Charles B. Flynn Post #1035 of the American Legion in Watervliet and was a member of the Watervliet VFW City Post #729. He was a life-member of the Watervliet Lodge of Elks and a communicant of the former St. Brigid’s Church in Watervliet.

John enjoyed his retirement years and was happiest when he was spending time with his family and friends. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled his heart with pride. He enjoyed the occasional glass of bourbon, visits to the Saratoga Racino, watching sports, especially boxing, and family vacations. John leaves a legacy of faith, dedication to family and love for his country. He truly will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, John A. Ferro, Jr. and his wife Jayne of Rensselaer and Richard L.
