Obituary for John Joseph Brooks

ALBANY – John Joseph Brooks, 65, died suddenly Friday, November 30, 2018 at Albany Medical Center after being stricken at the Veterans House in Albany. Born in Jersey City, NJ on August 4, 1953, he was the son of the late Charles and Rita Burns Brooks.
John was raised and educated in Jersey City, NJ and was a US Navy veteran serving his country from 1972-1975. He was employed by the Watervliet Arsenal as a machinist for over 15 years and later was a cook at the Veterans House in Albany for many years.
John was a member of the Niskayuna American Legion Post #1092 and was a proud Disabled American Veteran. He enjoyed cooking and fishing and was a diehard Oakland Raiders fan and was a proud member of Raider Nation.
He was predeceased by his fiancé Robin.
He was the beloved father of John J. Ryan of Troy and Tiffany (James) Byrnes of Naples, FL; proud grandfather of Ariana Hendrix, Haven Byrnes, Tarique Ryan and Devlin Ryan; dear brother of James Brooks of Florida, Donald Brooks of Watervliet, Charles Brooks of Brunswick, Thomas Brooks of Troy, Marilyn Brooks of Tennessee, Cynthia Morine of Florida and the late Gary Brooks of Troy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Friday from 10:00-11:30 am followed by the funeral service at 11:30 am with Deacon Charles Wojton officiating. Interment will follow in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 1 pm.
