Obituary for James J. "Jimbo" Cahill Jr.

VOORHEESVILLE – James J. “Jimbo” Cahill, Jr., 58, died peacefully, Christmas morning, December 25, 2018 at his home with his beloved wife Jaci at his side. Jim was born in Troy on December 6, 1960, the oldest son of the late James J. Cahill, Sr. and Ann E. Bailey Cahill.

Jimbo was raised in Watervliet and graduated from St. Patrick’s School in 1975. He was a standout CYO basketball player for St. Patrick’s and at Brotherhood Park in Watervliet. He also played quarterback for the Watervliet Steelers Pop Warner football team. He was a 1979 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy where he played freshmen and JV basketball.

Jim graduated from East Carolina University and lived in Greenville, NC for a few years to enjoy the warmer weather. Upon returning home in 1987, he was employed by Albany Janitor. He then began his career with Janitronics where he became the Operations Manager for Central New York including Syracuse and Rochester for the past 17 years. He also owned his own carpet cleaning business, Shine Master for many years.

Jimbo loved skiing, boating on Warners Lake and Lake George, golf and spending time at his family’s camp on Warner’s Lake with his family, friends and his dog’s Spike and Cheetah. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs football fan and was a member of the Watervliet AOH.

Jimbo was always in a good mood and loved nothing more than getting together with his cherished friends from Brotherhood Park, Catholic High and Janitronics to have a drink and share good times.

He is the beloved husband of Jacqueline “Jaci” McCarthy Cahill; devoted father of Christopher Cahill of Costa Mesa, CA, Amber R. Riley of Voorheesville and Jesse Mason of Schenectady; proud grandfather and “Zim” of Jasper Riley; dear brother of Patricia Hoffman (Michael Jackson) of Marshfield, MA, Susan C. (late George) Maille of Delmar, Michael W. (Tammy) Cahill of Monroe, CT, Maureen M. Cahill of Voorheesville and the late Deborah J. (Brendan survives) Murphy of Athens, NY; uncle of Daniel Cahill of Monroe, CT; nephew of Joan (late Robert) Bailey of Albany.

The funeral mass will be Thursday, January 3rd at 1:00 pm at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2416 7th Avenue, Watervliet with Rev. Donald Rutherford, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Wednesday, January 2nd from 4-7 pm.
