Obituary for Clifford Jay Hughes Sr.

SCHUYLERVILLE – Clifford Jay Hughes, Sr., 73, formerly of Clifton Park, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Albany on October 23, 1945, he was the son of the late Alta Minnie Randall Hughes and Harold Harvey Hughes. Cliff was raised in Watervliet and graduated from Watervliet High School, the famous class of 1964.
Cliff loved to work and worked various jobs growing up including with his dad at Shaker Road Nursery on Rt. 155 in Latham. He was a truck driver for UPS and a member of the Teamsters driving for various freight companies. He also worked for Keis Beer Distributors in Watervliet.
He started his own landscape business in 1985, Cliffside Services, Inc. in Clifton Park and also was the owner of Clifton Park Storage on Rt. 146 in Clifton Park. He resided in Clifton Park for over 50 years before building his dream home on the Hudson River in Schuylerville 10 years ago.
Cliff wintered in West Palm Beach, FL, enjoyed cruises, camping with his family and was quite a rollerskater at Guptill’s Roller Skating Arena in Latham.
He was the beloved husband of 52 years of Julie Ellen Slichko Hughes; devoted father of Clifford J. (Anita B.) Hughes, Jr. of Clifton Park, Michele M. Hughes Williams of Clifton Park and Michael W. (Lynn) Hughes of Surprise, NY; proud grandfather of Darrin Jordan Williams, Kyle Clifford Hughes, Torey Ellen Williams, Olivia Lynn Hughes and Christopher Michael Hughes; dear brother of Anne (late Clarence) Smith and Alta H. (late Jerry) both of Pocahontas, Arkansas, Elliott R. (Bonnie) Hughes of Stillwater, Gordon B. (Teresa) Hughes of Troy and Lisle E. (Jill) Hughes of Latham. He is also survived by several cousins and nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Cliff’s doctors and staff at St. Peter’s Hospital, Dr. Delmonte and the caring nurses at Saratoga Hospital Medical Group-Hematology/Oncology, as well as Beth and the passionate staff at Community Hospice of Saratoga.
The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with Pastor Nathan Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7 pm.
