Obituary for Carmen Anthony Veronese

WATERVLIET – Carmen Anthony Veronese, 84, died peacefully Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in Watervliet on February 28, 1935, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Casolo Veronese.

A lifelong resident of Watervliet, Carmen attended School 8 in Watervliet. He was employed as a cook at Cocca’s Diner and Verni’s Diner both in Watervliet and also worked at a restaurant in Lake George.

In 1968, Carmen joined the Albany County Sheriff’s Department and worked as a deputy sheriff at the Albany County Courthouse until retiring in 1990. He served faithfully under Sheriffs Ed Fischer, Jack McNulty, George Infante and Jim Campbell.

Carmen was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Watervliet where he was an usher. He was a member of the Simonian-Avakian Post and was a huge NY Yankees and NY Giants fan. Carmen loved baseball and was a season ticket holder for the Tri-City Valleycats and the Albany River Rats hockey team.

He is the beloved husband of 45 years of Kathleen M. Schutter Veronese whom he married on October 13, 1973 in St. Mary’s Church in Nassau; devoted father of Scott Thomas Veronese of Watervliet; dear brother of Joseph D. (Mary E.) Veronese of Oceanside, CA and the late Julian, Rosemary, Rose Rita Veronese and Debra Byng. He is also survived by his faithful grand dog, Prince.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Samaritan Hospital ICU Dept. for their compassion and excellent care of Carmen.

The funeral service will be Friday at 10:00 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with Rev. Donald Rutherford, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-6 pm.
