Obituary for Teresa V. Passaretti

Baton Rouge, LA - Teresa V. Passaretti, 60, (Freehold, NY) daughter of the late Irene "Renee" Passaretti and Ernest "Doc" Passaretti, of Menands, New York, passed away at her family's Baton Rouge home on July 8, 2019, from ALS. She has gone to meet her friends and family, two-and four-footed, at the end of the rainbow bridge.

Teresa is a graduate of Menands School 1972, Troy High School 1976 and Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Science 1980, where she was a clarinetist in Cornell's Big Red Marching Band and a sister in the Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi. Teresa worked in many positions during her 22 years at Albany Medical Center and College, including dialysis technician, and Laboratory Manager for Dr. John J. Jefferies. Opportunity presented a new challenge for Teresa, and she moved on to spend the next 15 years working at the David Axelrod Institute, Wadsworth Center, NY Department of Health as a molecular biologist in the division of Infectious Disease. She is the author and co-author of many scientific papers. She retired in July 2017 due to the progression of ALS.

Teresa is survived by her beloved family, sister Charlotte Berard (Mark) of Baton Rouge, LA; brother Michael of Milwaukee, WI; the daughters of her heart: Sarah "Boo" Berard (Caleb Bernacchio) of Barcelona, Spain; and Rachel "Sunshine Girl" Berard (fiancé, Tucker Barry) of Chicago,IL; along with grand-nephew Joseph Michael Bernacchio and grand-niece Mary Claire Bernacchio of Barcelona,Spain; and a great many extraordinary friends and family, some by birth, others by fate. She achieved a lifelong dream of owning and running her own little farm with her much-loved horses Lunar and Dolly.

A former resident of Menands, she was a member of Riverside Ambulance and Menands Fire Auxiliary. Teresa was a member of: ENYDCTA (Eastern NY Dressage and Combined Training Association), the NYS Horse Council Board of Directors (serving as recording secretary for seven years), NY Farm Bureau, and American Society of Microbiology.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, in Baton Rouge on her 61st birthday, July 23rd. Teresa chose to donate her brain, spinal cord, and necessary tissue for neurological research.

Visitation will be at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, NY, on Friday, September 27th from 4:00 - 6:30 PM, followed by praying the rosary.
