Obituary for Edward J. "Eddie" Albert

TROY –Edward J. “Eddie” Albert, 98, a well-known local speed coach, died Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the Eddy Heritage House in Troy.

Born in Troy on July 9, 1921, he was the son of the late John W. and Anna Martin Albert. He was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He resided in Cohoes and Troy for most of his life.

He had his own radio program with WTRY during the 1950’s called “Saturday Night Date with Eddie Albert”.

He was employed by the Norton Company in Watervliet as a machine operator for 42 years before retiring.

Eddie was a well-known passionate “speed coach” for Capital District athletes for over 40 years. He coached athletes in high school, college and semi pro football. He also was a consultant for the US Olympic Bobsled Team and for the New York Jets professional football team.

Eddie enjoyed speed skating, downhill and cross country skiing, jogging, biking and driving cars very fast. He also enjoyed singing and big band music especially by his friend, Bob Eberly.

He was the loving father of Barbara Albert Baeringer; dear friend of Stephen & Terry Bailey of Feura Bush and Robert “Booie” Denio of Troy. He is also survived by several acquaintances that meant so much to him.

Friends may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Tuesday from 10-11 am followed by the funeral service at 11 am with Rev. Donald Rutherford officiating. The burial with full military honors will be at 1 pm at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
